The Poynt Smart Terminal and the Poynt 5 are both built to provide up to 8 hours of battery life, depending on usage.
Battery usage varies depending on several different factors including transaction volume, printer usage, screen brightness, device sleep settings, etc. With high transaction volume merchants, especially those Poynt Smart Terminal users who opt to frequently print receipts while off-dock, battery life will deplete quicker.
Tips to Optimize Battery Life
1. Plugged in - Keep your Poynt Smart Terminal and Poynt 5 plugged in when not in use. An icon in the top right corner of the device screen will indicate that the device is charging.
With the Poynt Smart Terminal, be sure that the charging pins are properly aligned on the bottom of the device and on the dock.
2. Adjust your device sleep settings - You may set preferences for your Poynt device to optimize battery performance on your Merchant HQ. Log into your Merchant HQ account on Poynt.net/Business and select Manage Store. Under the login settings tab, you can elect to Enable Automatic Sleep which will improve the length of your battery.
3. Offer SMS and Email Receipt Options - When your customers complete their checkout, they have the option to select receipt type. By default, options for receipt type are SMS, Email, Print Receipt, or No Receipt.
To preserve battery life, you can choose to disable print receipts. To change these settings, simply go to Poynt.net/Business and select Manage Store. Under the Txn Receipts tab, you have the option to toggle off any of the receipt types. You will see a preview of the screen displayed to the customer to the right of those toggles.
